Day 1: Lisbon
Private car transfer from Lisbon airport to your hotel and check-in.
This afternoon we’ve included a private afternoon tour to the idyllic hilltop village of Sintra including entry to the charming Pena Palace with tram ride, and the nearby resort towns of Estoril and Cascais with an English speaking local guide. Return to Lisbon in the late afternoon. Accommodations.
Day 2: Lisbon
Breakfast at your hotel. Morning pick-up at your hotel for a half day tour of Lisbon tour by private car and driver, with English speaking local guide. See the Tower of Belem (entry included) and Jeronimos Monastery (entry included), the Monument to the Discoveries, St. George Castle and the quaint streets of the Alfama District. Afternoon free. Day 3: Lisbon-Arraiolos-Evora
After breakfast, departure by private air conditioned sedan with English speaking driver/guide. Stop in Arraiolos, known for Its local handicrafts such as the local ladies weaving carpets by hand. Continue to Evora, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the oldest towns in Europe, where we’ll stay the night. Afternoon walking tour with a local English speaking guide to explore this charming and atmospheric town with its cobblestone streets and the ruins of a Roman temple.
Day 4: Evora-Obidos-Nazare-Tomar-Coimbra
Breakfast at your hotel. This morning, meet your driver/escort in the hotel lobby for our departure to the quaint medieval walled village of Obidos for a lovely stroll. Afterwards we continue to the picturesque seaside village of Nazare with its long sandy beaches, among the best in Portugal. Free time for lunch, on your own, at a seaside restaurant In the afternoon we continue to impressive Tomar where we’ll met our English speaking local guide for a private tour of one of the most historical towns in central Portugal with its huge Knights Templar Castle, and the ancient Synagogue (entry included). In the late afternoon we proceed to charming Coimbra, home to Portugal’s oldest university. Accommodations in Coimbra.
Day 5: Coimbra- Douro River Valley
Breakfast at your hotel. This morning your local English speaking guide will take take you on a walking tour through Coimbra's 700 year old university area with its maze of narrow lanes and its long traditions, including entry to the palatial university library. Free time for lunch on your own.
This afternoon our tour continues through north-central Portugal to the country's most famous wine-making region: the lush, green Douro Valley, where we'll visit an old "quinta" (estate) and winery with spectacular views of the surrounding valley. Here you'll learn all about the proud art of making fine port and other Douro region wines, with tastings included. Later in the afternoon we'll make our way to our hotel for overnight accommodations.
Day 6: Douro Valley-Vila Real-Guimaraes-Porto
After breakfast, meet your driver/guide in the lobby. Today we'll travel through terraced wine country and the green Minho region on our way to Portugal's second city of Porto. En route we'll stop in charming Vila Real for a visit of the city center and the beautiful Palacio Mateus; later we continue to Guimaraes, known as the birthplace of the Portuguese nation. Here we'll have a chance to stroll through the historic city center, a Unesco World Heritage site and have some free time for lunch, on your own. In the afternoon we proceed to nearby Porto for check-in and accommodations. In Porto you'll have many options for dinner at one of the many riverfront restaurants specializing in regional cuisine.
Day 7: Porto
Breakfast at your hotel. This morning we'll take a walking tour of Porto's riverfront Ribeira district, including the lavish rooms of its Stock Exchange Palace, the exquisitely-gilded Church of Santa Clara, and São Bento Train Station. The afternoon is free; time permitting, take a relaxing afternoon cruise on the Douro river or use your time to walk through the lively city center for last minute shopping.
Day 8: Porto
After breakfast, transfer to the airport or rail station.
