Upon arrival, get dropped-off at Zocodover Square, the commercial center of the Old City. Everything in Toledo is historical, for 2000 years it has been the home of Celts and Iberians, Romans, Visigoths, Jews and Muslims and later Castilians to become one of the major capitals in the times of the Hapsburgs. It remains the Head of the Spanish Church and the number of places of interest one can see is certainly overwhelming.
We shall start by visiting the Cathedral, one of the Gothic Jewels of Spain and one of the largest. The experience is unforgettable: the Choir and main Altarpiece, the Cloister and Organs, the Chapels and the Cathedral Museum (housed in the Sacristy it boasts pieces by Velázquez, Caravaggio and a large collection of Grecos).
Time to wander around the maze of tiny streets Toledo is mostly made of. Learn about sword-making traditions and the famous Toledo steel, the art of Damascene and taste the delicious marzipan. Admire El Greco’s Masterpiece: the burial of the Count of Orgaz in Sto. Tomé church, the work of a true genius. By the time we reach the tiny Cristo de la Luz Mosque we are beginning to understand the complexity of Toledo’s layered history. Towards the Judería or old Jewish Quarter where we will visit one of the oldest standing synagogues in Europe: Sta. María la Blanca.   Free time for lunch on your own in Toledo before returning by train to Madrid.   Tour ends upon arrival to Madrid train station. Make your way to your hotel by taxi, on your own.
