Description

    GRANDEUR ASCETIC

Enjoy a stay at the Pousada of Beja, the former Convent of San Francisco, a spacious and quiet retreat, where your body can rest and your mind finds many enjoyable ways to reassure.

Staying at the Pousada of Beja, is to stay in a holiday home with plenty more space and a significant historical burden. Do not be impressed by the majestic entrance: your steps will echo in the nave of the old church floor, high ceilings, that leaves guess the silence that occupied the space at the time it was inhabited by the Franciscan. But the next and attentive service at the reception will make you feel at home in this structure dating back to the XIII century. The structure of the convent has undergone renovations over the centuries, but the truth is that the original cloister arches remain, integrated in their reinforcements, in sight of those who come to stay in this beautiful Pousada.

    DESTINATION:
Although the vows of poverty are part of the array that originated the convent, all the aspects surrounding your stay will be rich in detail and history. For example, the cells of those who decided to follow the path of St. Francis of Assisi, on the upper floors have been adapted to be today the space where you can relax in comfort. Here you will also find the living room in the upper choir, which sometimes hosts concerts, to enjoy the extraordinary acoustics of the room.

    UNFORGETTABLE FLAVORS

The bar of the Pousada offers you snacks and delicious drinks all year around, but it is during summer, at the pool bar, you can taste light and delicious meals, perfect to you to scuba dive.

Having lunch in the restaurant of the Pousada of Beja, with its high ceilings and views of the cloister, has very little to do with the meals that the Franciscan monks ate in this same area, their old cafeteria.

A couvert of snacks with olives and Beja's olive oil and pâtés of various flavors helps you feel comfortable to choose the appetizing entrées and dishes that make the lower Alentejo flavors parade at your table.

Indulge in the açordas, especially the pennyroyal one, and be sure to warm yourself up with the soups of school-shark fish and tomato. Enjoy the "pataniscas" and fried sausages, taste the sea here when it's so far away with an Octopus salad, travel the entire country with passion fruit shot, a black pudding with rice and a cheese and tomato toast. Try out an extraordinary lambloin, a pie made of rabbit or the delicious black pork.

The convent sweets - the bread typical of Beja, the golden soup and "encharcada" - close the meal with a heavenly note, but if looking for something different, Serpa cheese gratin in apple with honey and rosemary gives a note sublime to your experience.

The restaurant of the Pousada de Beja takes up space that was once the refectory of the Franciscan friars.
With a capacity for 62 people, this large space is also available to hold your event or group on the occasion of your choice.
We recommend our famous Convent Cod, the speciality of the Pousada and we invite you to try our buffet of convent desserts, without forgetting the distinct Dourada soup. If your preference should be the typical lamb, then feast yourself on our Lamb à la Sheppard and accompany it with a regional wine from our menu.
The hot nights of summer are passed by the pool with the summer barbeques to enjoy on Saturday nights, with a mixture of entertainment!
