Book your holiday in Pousada Convento de Arraiolos, an ancient convent of the St. John the Evangelist religious order, which was devoted to assisting the poor and the sick of Arraiolos. The foundation stone was laid in August 14th, 1527 - the eve of the holiday consecrated to Nossa Senhora da Assunção, a great time to come here for some rest.

The entrance is long and winding, anticipating the level of tranquillity you will find: the Pousada, whose low building lays hidden in a valley surrounded by apparently endless agricultural fields, is punctuated by trees that will provide shade to your strolls, and by old slabs that echo the sound of your footsteps - often the only sound you will hear.

Between local specialties and international drinks, whether you stay in the bar or dine at the restaurant, everything you will try here is bound to have a different taste. Choose from several outdoor yards for dining or one of the halls to enjoy your drink, and find out what it really tastes like to have some time to spare.
With a complete and season-sensitive menu, the bar also offers a poolside service and a marvelous courtyard in the summer.
Once you reach the Pousada de Arraiolos and enter your room, your visit to the restaurant begins. You will find two presentations: the Pousada one, and the one with the typical meals you can have at the restaurant. Even if you have just finished your meal, it is impossible not to be inspired by the "Desfiada de Pombo Selvagem", with a very curious legend behind it; the "Empada de Lóios", a typical regional pot pie with a reputation of its own; the "Mimos de Porco", which do full honour to the finest Alentejo traditions of pork based cuisine; or the "Borreguinho de Azeite", a highly appropriate lamb dish for a region with so much pasture and so many herds. In the winter, be sure to try a soothing and typical tomato soup with poached egg, and in the summer there is always cool gazpacho with the same ingredients. The soups in Alentejo are simple, often replicating the lunch that men used to carry along with them to the fields. But work is something you won't think about when you try the typical sweet of Arraiolos, the intense Pastel de Toucinho, with a unique flavor and texture. Not to be missed.
