Description

A CONVENT IN THE CASTLE - HISTORY SQUARED IN YOUR VACATION
Be a guardian of space and time in Alcácer do Sal. In an area referenced by its strategic and geographic importance since the sixth century BC, nothing about the days you spend here will be common or repeatable.

Do not be fooled by the immutability of the peaceful landscape that is in every window or "ameia" (battlement) - even if you feel the weight of the centuries on the thickness of the walls, windows and Gothic doors and artwork referenced in the hallways. This Pousada proves that time changes everything and what was once a kitchen of Poor Clare nuns living in seclusion is now a room where you can read a book left by another guest's passing through.

Enjoy a stay at the Pousada of Alcácer do Sal, named in honour of D. Afonso II, that assured his belonging once and for all to the Portuguese territory and have a holiday you'll never forget or have ever again.

    LOCATION
The Pousada is comfortably installed on a hill overlooking the tranquil waters running from south to north of the Sado river. The Muslim wall is a constant companion, surrounding, protecting and interweaving your room and your stay with an aura of mystery, conquest and curiosity. There is always more to see, more walls to go by, more streets to go up and down, more battles to imagine, more river, rice fields, dunes and beaches to explore.

    DESTINATION
Less than 30 km on a road that is almost in a straight line, you can find one of the best-kept secrets of the Portuguese coast: the beaches of Comporta, Carvalhal and Pego. Chosen by the most sophisticated society and more entrenched fishermen, these beaches have the best restaurants and the wildest dunes. You can even imitate the ancient knights and go horseback riding in the sand. And of course, do not forget that you are in Alentejo: wherever you are, you will surely find a good restaurant nearby. The pork, the game, the rice, the fried river fish and the wonderful grilled sea fish will give a unique and delicious flavour to your holiday. Even if you are a vegetarian, between migas, rice, bread soups and soups you will be able to taste this extraordinary cuisine full of flavour.

    TRAVEL THROUGH THE ALENTEJO FLAVORS
The restaurant, result of the reconstruction of the Aracoelli Convent ruins, has the capacity for 140 people and from there you can take in the view of the castle walls whilst enjoying a variety of dishes which keep to the typical Portuguese cuisine, accompanied with a Sadino wine topping the experience for all who visit. Planning your stay in order to be able to try everything the restaurant of the Pousada has to offer is a must. The menu of the bar is light and adapted seasonally.

The poolside bar serves salads, "prego no prato" on a wooden board that lives up to its name; light burgers. Time dictates the snacks that you can taste.

With a menu that is a perfect embassy of regional flavors, the restaurant is ideal for those who enjoy a good - and long - meal. The couvert, which you musn't miss, is composed of local olive oil, sea salt, olives, butters and typical bread of Alentejo, compact and with a slightly sour flavor. The following are the amuse-bouche, which are always a surprise, but that certainly containtypical regional products: carrots in vinaigrette, fresh cheese with olive oil and oregano and pig ear salad are just a few examples.

Risk with the entrées and get broad beans with chorizo or something that you'll hardly make or experience close to home. The braised meagre with smoked tomato migas, the game patty accompanied with pine nut rice and the pintada (a smaller chicken the size of a partridge) are excellent examples of the alliance between typical regional food and the sophisticated presentation of this place. The typical partridge soup is perfect to warm up the coldest nights and the pork tenderloin with clam migas is a sophisticated and noble transformation of the typical pork of Alentejo. The flavors are amazing and the final feelings are of lightness and absolute satisfaction. Finish with an original pine nut pie, an intense bacon from heaven, a light custardor a typical sericata with Elvas plums.

Ask the waiters for the best wines to complement your meal. With options of exclusively Portuguese names, and balance between the most famous Alentejo offers and the sweeter wines from the lands of Sado, you'll be sure to find the perfect complement to your meal. The service is extremely attentive and knowledgeable about everything you may want to taste, so it is worth asking for advice and suggestions.

Take your breakfast in the restaurant room during the winter and be sure to enjoy the cool shade of the cloisters in the summer.
