Description
The Parador de Monterrei is located in what is considered by many historians as the greatest Galician Acropolis. Through the centuries there have been many uses of the Castle such as a defensive enclosure and a pilgrims hospital. It is a wonderful place to stay where you can feel the essence of Paradores.
Rooms at this boutique hotel offer the best views in the area. Its architectural configuration, within the walls of the Castly you can enjoy accommodations in the old Palace of the Counts (7 rooms ) or the Rectory (with 5 rooms). This historic hotel is itself a travel destination: the Castle, in addition to the Palace of the Counts and the Rectory, also contains areas such as the Church of Santa Maria de Gracia from the thirteenth century and that Watchtower with its well preserved medieval walls.

Verin is a beautiful town belonging to the province of Ourense, located in the southeast of the province on the banks of the river Tamega which highlights the medieval fortification of Monterrey (opposite the Parador ) and other points of interest such as Plaza de la Merced, the Cabreiroá spring, the Chapel of St. Lazarus, Viriato Square, the walk along the river Tamega the Alameda Gardens , the Plaza del Rey and Plaza Mayor, among others.
Its origins was as a Roman village. During the Middle Ages the town lost its dominance and Monterrey centralized land and life in the region around his Earls and Lords . During the Middle Ages it developed into a quiet agricultural town, although they were often caught up in armed conflicts of successive rulers of Monterrey and the border disputes between Spain and Portugal.
