MADRID

Santander

The capital of Spain is made up of people from all over Spain and open to new social trends. The Madrid of the Austrias, the Bourbons, the romantic, the popular, the sophisticated and the modern are some of the faces that the city will show us during our visit. Characterized by its lively nightlife, Madrid is not lacking in distractions after a day of walks and discoveries. This city has a lot to offer and not only for its important art galleries like the Prado Museum or the Reina Sofía but also for its churches, convents, alleys, squares, gardens, and skyscrapers. A wide range in which to choose what we like most. Madrid enjoys around 2,800 hours of light a year and an average temperature of 17 degrees Celsius.

ARANJUEZ

Santander

Just south of Madrid, where the Tagus River flows through fertile plains, lies Aranjuez, a serene and majestic enclave once reserved for Spanish royalty. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a sublime fusion of nature, art, and aristocratic splendor. At the heart of Aranjuez stands the resplendent Royal Palace, surrounded by manicured gardens that rival Versailles—where fountains dance among sculptures, and avenues of ancient trees whisper tales of emperors and artists. Cruise gently along the river, indulge in elegant seasonal cuisine inspired by royal banquets, or enjoy an intimate concert in historic salons once frequented by the Bourbons. Aranjuez is not merely a destination—it is a sensorial journey through refinement, legacy, and natural beauty, offering high-end travelers a tranquil escape steeped in regal charm.

TOLEDO

Santander

The history of Toledo dates back to Roman occupation (Toletum) circa 192BC. The ruins of the Roman circus are still visible just outside the walls of the city. Roman occupation was followed by Visigoth rule, Muslim rule and finally the Reconquest of Toledo in 1085AD. Toledo was the capital of the Spanish empire until the mid-1500s when the royal court moved to Madrid. The winding, cobbled streets of the old town are often crowded with locals and tourists, as well as a surprisingly large number of cars and vans. Don't miss the 13th century cathedral or the Alcázar which sits atop the town and dates back to Roman times.

As a visitor to Toledo, you are not allowed to pick or collect anything off the street because the entire city is a gazetted monument. However, there are souvenir shops where one can buy mementos. You get a better view of the ancient city as you enjoy local meals in one of the hotels across at the banks of Tagus River.

ALCÁZAR DE SAN JUAN

Santander

In the sunlit heart of Castilla-La Mancha lies Alcázar de San Juan, a historic town where culture, heritage, and elegance meet in perfect harmony. Often overshadowed by its famous literary neighbor, this hidden treasure is a sanctuary for discerning travelers seeking authenticity without compromise. From its ancient windmills—silent sentinels of Cervantine legend—to the serene beauty of its convents and Renaissance churches, Alcázar is a journey through the noble soul of Spain. Discover artisanal Manchego cheese aged to perfection, taste bold wines crafted from century-old vineyards, and lose yourself in the refined rhythm of a town that treasures tradition with quiet sophistication. Here, time flows more gently, and every experience—from a boutique hotel stay to a sunset walk through the vineyards—feels deeply personal and richly rewarding.

CÁCERES

Santander

Step into Cáceres, and step back into a world where time slows and history whispers from every ancient stone. This UNESCO World Heritage city, nestled in the heart of Extremadura, is an exquisitely preserved medieval masterpiece—where Renaissance mansions, Moorish towers, and Roman remnants coexist in perfect, poetic harmony. Strolling through its cobbled streets feels like wandering through a cinematic set bathed in golden light. Elegant palaces with carved coats of arms line quiet plazas, while centuries-old churches echo with the gentle toll of bells. As twilight descends, the city glows with a hushed elegance—inviting you to dine under the stars in secluded courtyards, savoring truffle-infused delicacies and the finest Extremaduran wines. Cáceres is not simply a place to visit—it is an experience to be savored, a noble retreat where culture, cuisine, and history converge in timeless splendor.

MERIDA

Santander

Mérida is a Spanish city, capital of Extremadura and seat of its institutions of government. It is also the capital of the region of Tierra de Mérida - Vegas Bajas, located in the north of the province of Badajoz. The city, one of the most important of all Hispania, was endowed with all the comforts of a great Roman city and exerted of capital of the Roman province of Lusitania. In the year 713 the city fell into Muslim hands, in which it remained until its re-conquest by the Christians in 1230. In recognition of its past splendor, in 1983 it was designated capital of the autonomous community of Extremadura. Merida is located almost geographically in the center of the region, crossed by the Guadiana River and the Albarregas River. The "Archaeological Complex of Mérida" was declared by Unesco, in 1993, Patrimony of the Humanity, due to its important historical and monumental interest. Economically, Mérida is a city of services, with an increasing importance in the industrial sector and an almost extinguished primary sector. It has the title of Very Noble, Old, Large and Loyal City of Mérida.

JEREZ DE LA FRONTERA

Santander

Jerez de la Frontera, usually called Jerez, is a city in southern Spain's Andalusia region. Its old quarter surrounds the Alcázar de Jerez, a Moorish fortress founded in the 11th century. The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art is a famed riding school with horse shows and a carriage museum. The city is also known for flamenco music and sherry production in the so-called Sherry Triangle lying to the west.

CÁDIZ

Santander

Cradled by the azure waters of the Atlantic, Cádiz is one of Europe’s most enchanting coastal treasures. Steeped in over 3,000 years of history, this sun-drenched peninsula offers a captivating blend of ancient Phoenician heritage, golden Baroque facades, and Andalusian charm. Stroll through its maze of marble-paved alleys where jasmine-scented courtyards open into quiet plazas, or savor exquisitely fresh seafood paired with crisp sherry in a harbor-side bodega. With its shimmering beaches, rich flamenco tradition, and a distinctly laid-back elegance, Cádiz invites you to experience Spain at its most authentic—unspoiled, soulful, and resplendently refined.

CORDOBA

Santander

Smallest of the triple-crown cities of Andalucia, but by no means to be overlooked.  Cordoba is the only city in Spain with a genuine former Mosque from 784 AD, when the local Muslims purchased the Christian half of the previously shared property and began the construction of the great Mosque in earnest.  The construction continued magnificently until 1236 when Cordoba was returned to Christian control and the Great Mosque became the Cathedral of Cordoba.  Fortunately, the cathedral is only an addition and does little damage to the overall structure of the former Great Mosque.  Unfortunately, the small but charming Cordoba Synagogue building (from 1314) is closed for renovations for at least the first half of 2018, and cannot be visited.    Cordoba is one of Spain’s most delightful cities.  Besides the historical quarter containing the former Great Mosque (now the cathedral), there are the impressive ruins of a Moorish palace-city (Medina Azahara) from the 10th century AD, on the outskirts.

SEVILLA

Santander

A city of history, that’s for sure.  Walk along the banks of the River Quadalquivir, on the waters of which Columbus set sail on many of his voyages of Discovery.  Or visit Columbus’ Tomb in the historical ancient Cathedral of Seville, and imagine the activity of Holy Week. With the floats, and processions.  Or visit a sword factory, from which a similar place the conquistadors were outfitted.   Visit a mantilla factory, from a similar one generations of Senoritas had purchased their finest for a stroll through the park conjuring up visions of Carmen by Bizet.  Stop into a local bar for a fino  sherry, crafted by local winemakers and aged for years before being offered as accompaniment to a tasty seafood tapa from the river or the nearby Atlantic.   Visit magnificent museums, some in churches, displaying works by masters like Murillo and Zurburan.   Or perhaps linger for a more serious wine tasting.   Stop into a local taverna, to watch a well-trained couple dance a years-old Flamenco routine accompanied by exotic music.   Wander through endless shops of ceramic souvenirs, castanets, guitars and tambourines, unforgettable clothing, perfumes and wines.   Stroll along shaded pathways, admiring ancient buildings surrounded by tropical plants.  Choose between charming smaller hotels or amazing historical luxury palaces for accommodations before choosing between fascinating tapas bars and top notch gourmet restaurants.  Seville is history, and you will be able to live it there!
