It is also the capital of the region of Tierra de Mérida - Vegas Bajas, located in the north of the province of Badajoz. The city, one of the most important of all Hispania, was endowed with all the comforts of a great Roman city and exerted of capital of the Roman province of Lusitania. In the year 713 the city fell into Muslim hands, in which it remained until its re-conquest by the Christians in 1230. In recognition of its past splendor, in 1983 it was designated capital of the autonomous community of Extremadura. Merida is located almost geographically in the center of the region, crossed by the Guadiana River and the Albarregas River. The "Archaeological Complex of Mérida" was declared by Unesco, in 1993, Patrimony of the Humanity, due to its important historical and monumental interest. Economically, Mérida is a city of services, with an increasing importance in the industrial sector and an almost extinguished primary sector. It has the title of Very Noble, Old, Large and Loyal City of Mérida.

GRANADA

An ancient Spanish poet is said to have written:_”There is nothing so sad as to be in Granada—and be blind!”  How true, for this magical city provides constant treats to one’s vision.  Located at the foot of the (usually snowcapped) 11 thousand foot- plus Mulhacen Peak (home of a famous ski resort),  Granada shares the fame of Andalusia (southern Spain) with the her delightful cities of Seville and Granada, plus the coastal city of Malaga and the resort area of Costa Del Sol.   This delightful verdant land, blessed with abundant water and a mild climate, had been populated since at least 5000 BC and became a Catholic center as early as the first century of the Christian era. Over time, a Moorish domination set in and Granada became a city of the Caliphs, and the magnificent gardens and palaces of the Alhambra were created, ushering in an era of the “Thousand and One Nights”.  By early 1500, the Christian Monarchs of Ferdinand and Isabel had reestablished control of Spain.  Today, Granada stands as a glorious reminder to its natural beauty and historical edifices along with traditions like local costumes, flamenco,  bullfighting and delicious cuisine.  Comfortable tourist accommodations range from local hotels of all categories to the magnificent Parador of Granada. Located right within the Alhambra itself!

UBEDA

Nestled in the heart of Andalusia, Úbeda is a jewel of Renaissance charm that transports visitors back to the golden age of Spanish artistry and architecture. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this enchanting town is renowned for its impeccably preserved palaces, elegant churches, and sunlit plazas. Wander through its cobbled streets to admire the imposing Sacra Capilla del Salvador, a masterpiece of Spanish Renaissance design, or lose yourself in the serene beauty of its olive groves that stretch endlessly toward the horizon. With its rich cultural heritage, artisanal pottery traditions, and warm Andalusian hospitality, Úbeda offers an unforgettable journey into Spain’s historic soul.

VALENCIA

Defining the land of Valencia is no easy task. It would be necessary to go to the works of the great Blasco Ibáñez to find out that he keeps this magical region bordered by water and folklore. Perhaps it is their rich paellas, the echo of their grandiose festivals, the Fallas, or the greenery of their gardens, which make Valencia one of the favorite cities of Spaniards and foreigners when they visit the peninsula. Valencia is the cradle of the sea and the sun, its great climate, the beauty of its beaches, the nightlife and the many places of avant-garde leisure and culture, make this city a paradise of feelings and sensations.

BARCELONA

The capital of Catalonia is located next to the Mediterranean, in a plain about five kilometers wide, limited by the sea, the delta del Llobregat and Besòs, and the Collserola mountain range. Barcelona enjoys a Mediterranean maritime climate, with mild winters, and dry, hot summers. The relative humidity is 70 percent, which causes that in summer increases the sensation of heat. Its industry is based in the metallurgical, chemical, textile, food, and construction sectors, among others and its port is one of the most important in the Mediterranean. It’s necessary to emphasize the urban expansion that was realized after the collapse of its walls and the approval of the Plan Cerdà in 1859, that would give rise to well-known Barcelonian expansion. The present term of the city is the result of the annexation of the terms of old neighboring municipalities like Gracià, Sant Gervasi, Les Corts, Sants, Sant Andreu and Sant Martí, in 1893, and Sarriá in 1921. The old, By the ancient Roman and medieval cities, concentrates much of the monumental heritage. The most outstanding is the famous Gothic Quarter, which occupies the old site of the Roman city. But also, the neighborhoods of the city that had constituted previously close municipalities keep an interesting monumental heritage, as it is the case of the monastery of Pedralbes in Sarriá or the Parc Güell in Gracià.
